MY ROLE: Producer and Stage Manager
Match Day is an annual event that is riddled with excitement and anticipation as graduating medical students discover the next phase of their careers: residency. This event is energetic; the tangibility and pulse of emotions is one of the salient aspects.
Because of the pandemic, we found ourselves in a moment of pause and pivot, to navigate how we'd keep the excitement going while having to maintain distance. Following the leadership of the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, we decided to put on an interactive livestream.
My role in both the 2021 and 2022 productions was that of producer and stage manager. From the start that entailed that I: ensured pre-event meetings to make sure creative and tech teams were on the same page; created the cue and call sheets; scheduled and managed the tech rehearsals communicating with both off-site AV teams on onsite-video and tech; managed and directed the talent and content that would be featured live and/or during the "commercial breaks" the day of.
This was one of my first times being a live producer for a on-air broadcast with so many moving parts. It was thrilling and rewarding, and each time, was well-received with flawless execution despite a few day-of surprises.
